Rio Real |
Ctra de Cadiz Km 185, 3 kms from Marbella.
Designed by Spain's top architect Javier Arana, Rio Real Golf Course opened in 1965, one of the original golf courses on the coast. It is situated close to Marbella and is set in the Rio Real valley, with the river intersecting the course several times. The excellent fairways and greens meander through the lush hills down to the blue Mediterranean but is otherwise relatively flat, unusual for the Costa del Sol; you can walk this one. Golf here is a very pleasant experience, offering wonderful views, well established trees with much appreciated shade. The dogleg 10th hole is a pretty par 4 leading to a spectacular 11th tee overlooking a green whose access lies across a ravine. The Par 3 12th is being restructured, and Rio Real is one the few courses that remains open whatever the weather.
