Set in the mountains of Benahavis, Monte Mayor is one of the most spectacular courses on the Costa del Sol with cascading waterfalls and the most superb views you will find in any location. It is challenging, to say the least - visitors either love or hate this baroque masterpiece laid out through rocks, gorges and amidst wild vegetation in 1989 by the genial Pepe Gancedo. The quality of greens and the natural beauty of the surroundings will make your round of golf unforgettable. Originally considered as a course to play perhaps once, this opinion has changed over the years, many golfers thoroughly enjoying the challenge time and time again. Target golf with fairly lenient local rules that favour the brave; any lost ball is considered to be in a side water hazard. During the first decade of its existence, Monte Mayor gained a certain notoriety for the difficult access along a mountain track. The club can now be reached via a new asphalted road and is signposted from the Benahavis road.
