Guadalmina |
1 kilometre west of San Pedro de Alcαntara Guadalmina Golf is a popular golf course providing two 18 hole golf courses and a 9 hole practise course.
Guadalmina Norte, opened in 1975 and designed by Folco Nardi, is probably the easier of the two golf courses although the fairways are more undulated and there are more water hazards and trees in play.At the 11th you drive over a small lake and a fountain placed just before the green whilst at the par 4 17th the river comes into play. Lakes, streams, fountains and the river Rio Guadalmina combine to make golf at Guadalmina Norte a very refreshing experience.
Guadalmina Sur opened in 1959. This course, designed by Javier Arana, has wide fairways winding between stands of pine and jacaranda trees.Considered the more difficult of Guadalmina's 45 holes, it is the Costa del Sol's second oldest golf course. The raised greens are an encouragement to attack the pin. Henry Cotton named the long seventh hole Tipperary as it's a long way to go! At the fifteenth there is a bunker waiting to catch anything that falls short and from the tee, tunnel vision is an advantage in order to successfully drive between two stands of tall pine.
