Desert Springs Golf Course

Desert Springs Indiana golf course is situated in the north of Almeria at Almanzora and was opened in 2002. The course was designed by Peter McEvoy and is a genuine desert course with many different varieties of desert plants, including giant cactus, imported from America.

However, due the innovative use of recyled water, the fairways are of rye grass - more commonly found on fairways in the UK, and they are a pleasure to play off. This contrasts spectaclulary with the 'rough' which contains a huge amount of flowering desert plants apart from the cacti! In order not to damage the plants, you are allowed a free drop in the rough, though you do have to find your ball first...

The course is a genuine test of golf, but suitable for all abilities as the fairways are quite generous. The greens are true and fast but demand good feel and technique. Certainly one of the best courses in Spain and well worth a visit. A second course is planned and construction should start within the next year.
